The Great Commission
June 2015 - Sojourn Ministries partnering with Crown Peak Baptist Church.
The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti has been plagued by political violence for most of its history. After an armed rebellion led to the forced resignation and exile of President Jean-Bertrand ARISTIDE in February 2004, an interim government took office to organize new elections under the auspices of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Continued violence and technical delays prompted repeated postponements, but Haiti finally did inaugurate a democratically elected president and parliament in May of 2006. A massive magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010 with an epicenter about 15 km southwest of the capital, Port-au-Prince. An estimated 2 million people live within the zone of heavy to moderate structural damage. The earthquake is assessed as the worst in this region over the last 200 years.
As a result of the earthquake, Crown Peak Baptist Church has been able to develop several ministries among the Haitian people. Though we do not hear much concerning Haiti in the news anymore, there is still a lot of recovery work to do, allowing for many opportunities to share Christ.
If you would be interested in going on this trip, please let us know. The cost per person is $2,000. Please be in prayer for the development of this trip and for the resources to make it possible. Costa Rica and Panama
June 2015 - Britnei Shive teamed up with SportQuest
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with great food, weather, beaches and more! However, in Costa Rica, sport is the main attraction and a relationship with Jesus Christ is forsaken. For years and with great success, Sport Quest has used sports as a platform to share God's message of hope and salvation to the youth of the country in schools, sport clubs and more. Britnei will be working with SportQuest missionary staff in this initiative to train and equip a new generation of followers of Jesus Christ in Costa Rica and Panama. However, the trip is going to cost roughly $3,500. Please pray for Britnei and her team and if you would like to support her by making a tax deductible gift, please click here or go to our online giving page and put Britnei in the purpose line.
April 2015 - Pastor Mike along with three other GVBA pastors
We arrived in Nepal on April 23rd. About noon on the 25th was a 7.8 earthquake, the first of many. Click here to view a story written by the Baptist Press regarding our trip.
Here is also a link to a video of David Platt describing the seen at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. He visited the site a year ago. We visited the temple the day before the earthquake and witnessed a similiar scene. Click here to visit the photo pages to see pictures of the temple and other pictures taken on our trip. Here is also a video of one of the many cremation ceremonies taking place while we were there.
We partner with the International Mission Board by giving to them financially, praying for their missional efforts, and working with them through short term international mission trips as they seek to reach the 947 people groups they are currently engaging, and for opportunities to reach the other 3264 unreached/unengaged people groups of the world.
Information on going, sending and supporting opportunities is listed above.
